Chris was born in Taiwan and grew up in the nascent days of post-Apartheid South Africa. He completed his medical education at University of Cape Town, graduating with first class honors. As a Rhodes Scholar at the University Oxford, he studied adult neurogenesis and post-stroke brain repair, obtaining both a MSc and PhD in Neuroscience in Francis Szele’s lab.
Chris is pursuing a career in academic cerebrovascular neurosurgery, combining clinical practice and basic science research, to further our understanding of cerebrovascular diseases. He is especially interested in prevention and early detection strategies, taking into consideration the global burden of disease and resource constraints.
Chris has an interest in expedition medicine and accompanied a marine expedition to the Southeast Sulawesi in Indonesia as the team doctor.
